Part time and distance learning

New support for Higher Education (HE) part time and distance learning students is to be introduced for Autumn enrolment 2008.

A part time grant of up to £500 will be available to all new and existing students who are aged 16 or over, earn £18,000 or less and who are studying at 50% or more of a full time course.

This part time grant will replace the current £500 loan. It will be paid direct to your institution to help towards the cost of your tuition fees.

Application forms for the new scheme will be available from the end of June 2008, and you will be able to apply by contacting the ILA Scotland helpline on 0808 100 1090.

You will also find more information on the new grant on the ILA Scotland website.

For any student who was previously in receipt of the part-time loan, repayments will not start until the April after you graduate or leave higher education, and only if you are earning over £15,000 a year.

The Scottish Government have provided additional funds for part-time students to the college and university Discretionary Funds.
