NHS Biomedical Science Bursary – Questions and Answers

How many bursaries are available?

There will be a maximum of 200 Biomedical Science bursaries in 2011-12.

Who is eligible?

Those on a clinical placement who have been nominated by their university for a bursary. In addition, students have to intend working with NHS Scotland after graduating. Only those students who are allowed to live and work in this country indefinitely after graduating are eligible to apply.

How long is the Biomedical Science bursary available for?

The Biomedical Science bursary is no longer available to new students.

The last intake who are eligible for the bursary are students who began their degree in 2009-2010. These students will receive their bursary in their placement years in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 (2010-2011 and 2011-2012 for Robert Gordon University students).

Will I be eligible to claim the bursary if I have to repeat a placement year?

We will give consideration to requests for repeat years.  It will depend on the circumstances of each case as to whether we award the bursary.

Will I be eligible to claim the bursary if I attend another university?

No.  Only those eligible students studying at either the University of Abertay, Glasgow Caledonian University, the University Of The West of Scotland and Robert Gordon University can apply.

How do I apply for the bursary?

Students must complete an application which has to be endorsed by their university.  Application forms are available from participating universities.

When do I receive my bursary?

Providing you have fully completed the application then we will arrange to pay you in a lump sum as soon as we get confirmation of your attendance from the university.
